Executive Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another busy and rewarding half term across our schools in Leicester, with many opportunities for our pupils to learn, grow and explore their learning in meaningful ways. We have also taken an important step forward by formally establishing the Leicester Learning Village, and we look ahead to the final stages of recruitment in the New Year to fully secure this exciting development.
Krishna Avanti Primary School (KAPS)
Our pupils have enjoyed a wide range of enriching experiences this half term, including Odd Socks Day and Anti-Bullying Week, a Year 5 Immersive Ancient Greece Day, a Year 3 Govinda’s food workshop, and our Christingle service at St Denys’ Church. Pupils have also taken part in Year 6 Avanti Sings rehearsals, Enterprise Week (raising £398), the Christmas Fayre, and Christmas Jumper Day (raising £218).
We have greatly valued welcoming parents and carers into school for our coffee afternoon, town hall event, and a range of workshops including PSHE/RSE, Year 4 MTC, Year 6 reading, Year 2 SATs, Reception dental hygiene, and Reception Christmas carols. Thank you to those parents who were also able to contribute to our recent Section 48 inspection.
For our staff, we were inspired on our INSET day when five schools across the Trust came together for the official launch of our Reading, Writing and Oracy project, led by the Open University. Over the coming year, this project will enrich our approach to literacy, with pupils already engaging enthusiastically in a competition to design new reading spaces across the school.
Avanti Fields School (primary)
Pupils at Avanti Fields Primary have also enjoyed a busy half term, taking part in Odd Socks Day and Anti-Bullying Week, a Year 3 Govinda’s food workshop, a KS1 sports festival, and Enterprise Week. Pupils also attended the Christmas Fayre raising ( £629.90) and celebrated Christmas Jumper Day raising ( £159.24)
We have been delighted to see parents and carers attend a variety of workshops and events, including Pre-school stay and play, Reception dental hygiene, Year 2 SATs, and Pre-school and Reception Christmas carols. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership with you in the Spring term as we support your child’s learning journey.
Staff were similarly inspired during our Trust-wide INSET day, marking the launch of the Reading, Writing and Oracy project with the Open University. This work will support high-quality teaching and learning across the school over the coming year.
Avanti Fields School (secondary)
This half term, our secondary pupils have taken part in a rich range of opportunities including National Space Academy masterclasses, sporting fixtures, Anti-Bullying Week, a Year 11 DMU food trip, Year 8 Avanti Sings rehearsals, and a Celebration Achievement Awards evening. Pupils have also participated in the Year 9 Girls in Computing event, a Year 8 trip to the National Space Centre, and Christmas Jumper Day.
We were pleased to welcome Year 11 parents and carers to our consultation evening, which this year returned to an in-person format and allowed for valuable face-to-face conversations.
Our staff were once again inspired during the Trust INSET day for the launch of the Reading, Writing and Oracy project, which will continue to strengthen teaching and learning across the secondary phase.
I would like to thank our Avanti Fields PTFA for their continued support this term, organising community events and contributing so positively to the life of our schools.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff for their unwavering commitment and dedication to your children. Their passion for inspiring spiritually compassionate changemakers ensures that high-quality teaching, enriching opportunities, and memorable experiences are possible for every pupil.
From everyone at the Leicester Learning Village, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Vanessa Bardsley
Executive Principal
Magical Moments
Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Krishna Avanti is all about.
We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!
Our Reading for Pleasure Journey with the Open University

This term, we have been proudly involved in the Open University Reading for Pleasure project, a Trust-wide initiative designed to deepen our understanding of reading behaviours, strengthen our reading culture and inspire children to develop a lifelong love of books.
Our work began with an inspiring whole-school INSET day, where staff across the school - and across the entire Avanti Trust - connected with the expert OU team. Their deep knowledge and passion for reading have shaped the direction of our project and we left feeling energised in our mission to build a richer, more joyful reading community for all our pupils.
In the Classroom: Creating Joyful Reading Moments
Across the school, we’ve already been putting these principles into action. Year 4 Radhe have been enjoying a truly magical Read for Pleasure session. With blankets in hand, the children built their own cosy reading dens and nestled into comfortable spaces to enjoy their chosen books. It was the perfect, calm start to the day - an opportunity for children to slow down, switch off and lose themselves in stories.
The 12 Books of Christmas
And the excitement doesn’t stop there! Last week, a very special surprise arrived…
We received a letter from Santa, who has been keeping a close eye on how brilliantly the children have been working on their reading this term. To celebrate their effort and enthusiasm, he has sent a special delivery of wrapped books for every class.
Over the last twelve school days, children will open one beautifully wrapped new story each day as part of our 12 Books of Christmas. This shared daily reveal is already filling our corridors with joy, anticipation and wonder, helping us build even more excitement around reading.
Bringing Stories to Life
To launch our Reading for Pleasure work, Mrs Tucker shared the powerful picture book "The Promise" during assembly.
The Promise, written by Nicola Davies, is a beautifully illustrated story about kindness, hope and the power of small actions to change the world. It follows a young girl living in a bleak, grey city who steals a bag she believes contains money. Instead, she finds acorns - tiny seeds with the power to transform not just her life, but the lives of everyone around her.
The book’s message of renewal, responsibility and giving back deeply connects to our school values, making it an inspiring choice to begin our project.
Look out for teacher book reviews in our newsletters from January, where staff will be sharing their own favourite reads and recommendations for families.
Investing in Reading Spaces Across Our School
As part of our commitment to building a reading-rich environment, we are investing in a number of brand-new reading spaces across the school. One of the most exciting developments is our new Interfaith Reading Space, located just outside the Lotus Room!
To make this space truly special, we are inviting children to take part in a design competition! Pupils are being challenged to think creatively, sketch their ideas and imagine how the space should look and feel. The winning design will inspire the final reading area - bringing the pupil voice and imagination into the heart of our school environment. Please see the poster for more details!
Get creative, think big, and let your imaginations run wild!
We can’t wait to share more updates on our Reading for Pleasure project in the coming months. Stay tuned for more magic, more stories and more opportunities for our children to fall in love with reading!
Reading Space Design Competition

Christmas Jumper day
Thank you so much to all our children and parents for supporting our Christmas Jumper day this week. Our school council and Mrs Tucker did a fantastic job of collecting the cash at the gates this morning.
Collectively we raised £218.00 which will be going to Save the Children.
Christmas Fayre updates

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you so much for joining with our Christmas fayre this week, we hope that you enjoy the stalls. As part of our enterprise week, the children made all the items to sell in class for the fayre. The winning class with highest taking was Y3 Prahlad class, so congratulations to them. They raised over £65.00 with their shortbread.
This money will go towards the reading project (further information in the bulletin) and providing wet play boxes for each class to use at break and lunchtime.
Thank you once again for your support.
House Winner
The winning house this 1/2 term is Air, they will be enjoying a treat on Friday 9th January.
After school clubs Jan 2026
The clubs will begin on the week commencing Monday 5th January 2025 except Spiritual Explorers Club
which will begin week commencing Monday 12th January 2025.
Thanks to our parent volunteers, we are now able to offer a chess club. Thank you very much, the money raised from the chess club will go to buying chess sets for classes so children can play at wet play.
Breakfast club
We are delighted to share that from January 2026; we are able to offer enhanced breakfast club provision. As the winter months can be colder, we will be serving a hot breakfast option daily. The enclosed menu details further the food offer. This is also in response to parent suggestions at the recent Townhall event.
There is no charge for our breakfast club provision, we ask though that parent's book in advance to enable us to cater and staff accordingly.

Star of the week
Each week, we celebrate a pupil who truly embodies the values of the Avanti Way—whether it’s showing compassion, demonstrating self-discipline, striving for excellence, or fostering spiritual insight. This recognition is more than just good work—it's about living our values and inspiring others to do the same.
Well done to this week’s star for shining brightly and setting a wonderful example for us all!

Rights Respecting at Home: Article of the Week
At Krishna Avanti Primary School, we are committed to promoting and upholding the rights of every child. It is important that children understand their rights because it helps them to feel valued, safe, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Rights Respecting Article of the week:
💜 Articles 4 links to Human Rights Day (10th December)
(Celebrating fairness, equality, and responsibility around the world)
Article 4 – Making rights real: Governments must do everything they can to make sure all children’s rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled.
Why these rights are important:
Children’s rights are part of human rights — the promises made to everyone, everywhere.
Governments have a big job: to make sure all children can grow up safe, healthy, and happy.
Schools, families, and communities also share that responsibility by treating everyone fairly and speaking up for what’s right.
Learning about Human Rights Day helps children see that fairness and respect are global — and that they can make a difference, even in small ways.
At home activity:
Fairness in Action Jar: As a family, notice moments of fairness, kindness, or speaking up for what’s right throughout the week. Write them on slips of paper and add them to a jar. At the end of the week, read them together and celebrate your “Fairness Champions”!
