information

At Krishna Avanti Primary School, we value a strong partnership with our parents and carers, especially as pupils begin to take part in more formal assessments. Our goal is to ensure every child is supported, prepared, and encouraged throughout their learning journey.

To track pupil progress throughout the academic year, we use a small number of internal assessment windows. These are carefully planned to monitor development and inform our teaching.

In addition to internal assessments, pupils take part in the following national assessments:

Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA)
This assessment provides a starting point for measuring progress from Reception to Year 6. It helps us understand how well schools support pupils throughout their primary education.

Early Learning Profile (EYFS Profile)
At the end of Reception, we assess your child against the Early Learning Goals. These cover seven key areas of development:

  • Communication and Language

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Physical Development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Year 1

Phonics Screening Check
This check assesses your child’s ability to decode words using phonics – an essential skill for developing reading and literacy. It ensures all pupils meet the expected standard for their age.

Year 2

Key Stage 1 SATs (Optional)
Although no longer mandatory, we believe that end-of-Key Stage 1 assessments provide valuable insight into your child’s early academic development. Pupils may take national curriculum tests in:

  • English grammar, punctuation and spelling

  • English reading

  • Mathematics

Year 4

Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
This online assessment checks whether pupils can fluently recall times tables up to 12×12. A strong grasp of multiplication is key to success in mathematics throughout school.

Year 6

Key Stage 2 SATs
These statutory assessments measure your child’s attainment at the end of primary school. Pupils are tested in:

  • English grammar, punctuation and spelling

  • English reading

  • Mathematics

Pupils Not Accessing Standard Assessments

In some cases, it may not be appropriate for a child to take part in formal assessments. We will always discuss this with parents and make decisions based on what is in the best interest of the child.

Alternative assessment approaches include:

  • Pre-Key Stage Standards

  • The Engagement Model (for pupils with complex needs)

If you have any questions about assessments or how we support your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or a member of the school leadership team.
