Head of Primary's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Parent Townhall – feedback
We would like to thank the parents who attended our second Townhall event earlier this week. Based on the topic preferences, we shared updates on Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, and Achievement, as well as a focus on Attendance. Please see the linked files (link the attached).
We are planning to review our parent engagement activities for next year, particularly those linked to school improvement. We are pleased that all of our school life engagement activities, such as stay and read sessions, attending collective worship, sports day, etc. have been well attended, but consistently find that we have lower numbers when we plan our school improvement engagement opportunities. We will send further details of these plans early in the new academic year
A heartfelt shout-out to Miss Desai, who leaves us today. Miss Desai will be starting a new job in social care after the holidays, we thank her for making our office feel warm and welcoming to our school community. You will be truly missed by us all, but we wish you every happiness and success as you begin your next journey. Thank you for everything you have given to our school.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Dolby - Molson

PTFA
Dear Parents,
CAN YOU HELP US ? WE NEED YOU !
KAPS Leicester is putting together a PTFA (parents, teachers and friends association) which we hope to start in the new academic year.
We envisage our PTFA as committed and valued support to our school community; helping to organise fun, spirited initiatives that reflect our school ethos and give back to our wonderful school. Funds raised will go directly back into the school to provide resources and further enhance learning for our children.
If you are interested in finding out more or joining the PTFA, an initial AGM will be held on the 10th June 2026 at 2.00pm at school.
We would love to see as many parents as possible who are interested in getting involved, whether on an ad hoc basis or in a more regular role. Whatever time you are able to give will be greatly valued.
There are a number of positions we need to make our PTFA successful, both lead and support roles, including Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-Chair, Vice-Treasurer and Communications Officer. These roles, along with other formalities, will be discussed further at the AGM. The location will be confirmed nearer the time.
Let’s get KAPS Leicester PTFA up and running!
Please use the school email (kapsleicester@avanti.org.uk) for any enquiries or speak to your year group parent champions for more information.
Magical Moments
Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Krishna Avanti is all about.
We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!
Celebrating KAPS
Reception | In Reception, we enjoyed learning about how to take care of our planet. | ![]() |
Year 2 |
Year 2 had a wonderful time celebrating Sports Day and getting involved in all the fun and engaging activities! | ![]() |
Year 3 | We have been studying plants and have really enjoyed the practicals.
| ![]() |
Year 4 | Year 4 have been working hard on using fronted adverbials in their writing. As part of this, they have been exploring a story from another culture, which has helped them think carefully about how to start sentences in interesting and varied ways. | ![]() |
Year 5 | Year 5 have been developing their dramatic writing skills by creating engaging playscripts recently. They explored how to use stage directions, speech and asides effectively to bring scenes to life and guide the actors. The children also focused on setting the scene and developing characterisation through dialogue, actions and behaviours, showing a fantastic understanding of how characters can be revealed through what they say and do. Great job, Year 5! | |
Year 6 | Year 6’s have enjoyed reading more of Oliver Twist, in English they have enjoyed 'freeze framing' parts of text during their Guided Reading sessions. | ![]() |
British Science week
For British Science Week, we are inviting parents who work in Scientific jobs to come to our school and talk about what their role entails. You will have 20 minutes to talk about what you do, what qualifications you need and the skills you’ve obtained. You can keep this as fun and interactive as you wish!
In the past, we had opticians, paramedics and otolaryngologists take part. If this is something you would be interested in participating in, please email our school office on kapsleicester@avanti.org.uk with the following details:

Govinda's Menu update
Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to let you know that Govinda’s will be trialling a number of new menu items over the coming weeks. These will be introduced in phases, allowing us to test and refine dishes before any wider rollout.
This forms part of our ongoing work to align with the proposed updates to School Food Standards, ensuring that our menus continue to promote healthy eating and support pupils’ wellbeing.
As part of this, the updated approach places greater emphasis on:
Increasing the variety of vegetables and wholegrains within meals
Reducing added sugars and limiting foods high in fat and salt
Providing balanced meals that support sustained energy and concentration throughout the school day
Encouraging healthier food choices through menu design and presentation
All meals will continue to be:
Freshly prepared on site
Nutritious and balanced
Fully vegetarian in line with the school’s food ethos
The purpose of these trials is to introduce new dishes, gather feedback from pupils, and ensure that our menus remain both enjoyable and nutritionally appropriate. There will be no disruption to the lunch provision, and all pupils will continue to receive a full and balanced meal each day.
As part of this process, we welcome feedback. If you would like to share any comments, please contact us at keepintouch@govindas.com.
Thank you for your continued support.

Leicester city Council Consultation updates: (online Survey)
Following the recent press release issued by Leicester City Council, a formal consultation will launch on 5 May 2026 and run until 12 June 2026, seeking views on proposed term dates for future academic years.
This provides an important opportunity for schools and stakeholders to help shape a term date pattern that supports pupils, families, and staff across the city. We are proposing two models, both of which retain a mid-July end to the academic year but differ in asking if a 1 week or two-week Autumn half-term holiday would be preferred.
Star of the week
Each week, we celebrate a pupil who truly embodies the values of the Avanti Way—whether it’s showing compassion, demonstrating self-discipline, striving for excellence, or fostering spiritual insight. This recognition is more than just good work—it's about living our values and inspiring others to do the same.
Well done to this week’s star for shining brightly and setting a wonderful example for us all!

Rights Respecting at Home: Article of the Week
At Krishna Avanti Primary School, we are committed to promoting and upholding the rights of every child. It is important that children understand their rights because it helps them to feel valued, safe, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Rights Respecting Article of the week:
Mental Health Awareness Week – Article 24
Mental Health Awareness Week occurs every year in May and is an ideal time for us all to think about mental health, tackle stigma, and discuss how we can create school environments that protect our mental wellbeing.
Why it matters:
It is important to understand Article 24 and the different types of emotions you have, and to know that it is usual and ok to have times when you might feel sad or worried.
At-home activity:
It’s ok to have different feelings and moods, and talking about them links to your right to freedom of expression. Learn what the different colours mean in the ‘Zones of Regulation’. How can you get back to green if you are in a different zone? Create your own Zones Bookmark to remind you of techniques that work for you.
