Head of Primary's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a busy 2 weeks it has already been here at KAPSL. Firstly, our Year 1 children completed their Phonics Screening Check last week with such confidence and positivity. We are so proud of them and the hard work and effort they all put into completing this reading task. This week, all the children from Reception to Year 6 have enjoyed taking part in various activities linked to Science Week. Children and adults were dressed up as scientists and nature– what an amazing sight to see.

Magical Moments
Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Krishna Avanti is all about.
We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!
Reception | Reception children have been learning about repeated patterns in maths, including AAB and AABB patterns, and created their own patterned rockets.

Year 1 | Year 1 have been working together to practise their dance skills. They worked on synchronising their movements, using good communication and listening skills. |  |
Year 2 | Year 2 loved our printing lessons in art. We used primary and secondary colours to make concentric outlines.

Year 3 | Year 3 scientists impressed us with their experiments |  |
Year 4 | Year 4 practised calculating with money. We found the total number of pounds and pence, used partitioning to help us work out amounts and explored how number lines can be used to add and subtract money. We also discussed whether exchanging pence for pounds was needed to help solve our calculations accurately. |  |
Year 5 | Y5 had a fantastic day dressing up as scientists from so many different fields. Our budding scientists made predictions and carried out an experiment using scientific equipment. Y5 had a brilliant time in the Wonder Dome, learning about the International Space Station as well as many other fantastic space facts.

Year 6 | Year 6 enjoyed taking part in a Spaghetti and Marshmallow Tower Challenge, where they worked collaboratively to design and build structures at least one metre tall. The activity encouraged teamwork, communication and problem-solving as pupils tested ideas and adapted their designs. It was fantastic to see their creativity, resilience and determination on display as they tackled this exciting engineering challenge.

Celebrating KAPS
National Thanks a Teacher Day
To celebrate National Thank a Teacher Day, our Year 6 pupils took on a very special project to show their appreciation for the staff who have supported them throughout their time at KAPS Leicester.
What makes this project even more impressive is that it was entirely pupil-led. From developing the idea and writing the content to every stage was planned and delivered by our Year 6 children.
This is a heartfelt tribute to our teachers and support staff and reflects the gratitude, creativity and maturity of our pupils. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the positive message they wanted to share.
A huge well done to our Year 6 team for creating such a thoughtful and memorable celebration of National Thank a Teacher Day.
Exciting Playground Update!
We are delighted to share that our new play equipment on the school field has now been installed. The children have already spotted it and are eagerly awaiting their chance to explore it!
Before it can be opened, we are carrying out a few final safety checks to ensure everything is ready for use. We hope to open the area very soon and will let families know as soon as the equipment is available for play.
Chabeel Day
Thank you to all the families who joined us for strawberry milkshakes after school as part of our Chabeel Day celebration.
Chabeel Day is a Sikh initiative held during the summer to commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Guru of the Sikhs. Instead of mourning, the Sikh community honours his legacy by spreading kindness and cooling refreshments – such as sweet milk-based drinks – to anyone in the community, regardless of background or belief.
This Sikh tradition honours the spirit of kindness and resilience shown by Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
It was wonderful to see so many smiles and a real sense of community. A special thanks to the staff and volunteers who helped make the event run so smoothly!
Govinda's Meal update
We would like to inform you of a small update to our school meal provision. Jacket potatoes will no longer be available every day; however, they will continue to feature as part of the menu on selected days each week.
This change allows us to maintain variety across the menu while ensuring we continue to meet nutritional standards and provide a balanced range of meal options for all pupils. As part of our ongoing menu development, we are also beginning to phase in products aligned with the new Department for Education (DfE) School Food Standards, which are due to come into effect from September 2027, supporting healthier school meals.

Message from Children's Commissioner England
Children’s Commissioner would like to conduct national survey to capture student views. Students are encouraged to take part in national survey. Please see below link.
The more pupils who participate from school, the more accurately their experiences, views and aspirations will be reflected in the national picture that will help shape future policy.
At a time of significant change for children and young people, it is more important than ever that their views are reflected in policymaking. Through this survey, they can take the voices of students directly to the centre of government.
Student champions who generate particularly high levels of participation will receive a formal thank you from office of Children’s Commissioner for England to recognising their contribution to amplifying young people’s voices.
Schools and colleges with the highest response levels will be invited to attend final Festival of Childhood, celebrating the voices and contributions of children and young people from across England.

Rights Respecting at Home: Article of the Week
At Krishna Avanti Primary School, we are committed to promoting and upholding the rights of every child. It is important that children understand their rights because it helps them to feel valued, safe, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Rights Respecting Article of the week:
World Refugee Day (20th June)
This day recognises the strength and courage of people who have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict, danger or natural disasters. Children who are refugees have the same rights as all children.
Why it matters: World Refugee Day helps children understand fairness, empathy and inclusion. It reminds us that everyone deserves safety, education and care, no matter where they come from. In a Rights Respecting School, we promote kindness and understanding towards all.
At home activity: Read or watch a child-friendly story about a refugee. Then create a “Welcome Poster” showing how your family or school could help someone new feel safe and included. Discuss how this links to children’s rights, especially the right to protection and education.

Cool down after school and support our PTFA!
Join us on Friday 26th June 2026 (straight after school pick-up) for ice pole Friday outside the reception.
Ice poles will be available for just £1 each- cash and cards will be accepted.

LEICESTER RATHAYATRA Festival of Chariots 2026
Join us on Sunday 28th June 2026 as Leicester’s city centre comes alive with a joyful celebration of devotion and spirituality.
Experience the breath taking sight of a majestic 40ft hand-pulled chariot carrying the magnificent Deities of Lord Jagannath (Krishna), Lord Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi.
The procession will journey from Leicester City Centre, along the famous Golden Mile, and into Cossington Park, accompanied by joyous music, traditional dancing, and devotional chanting.

Leicester Rathayatra
Leicester Symphony Orchestra concert
The Leicester Symphony Orchestra is having their next concert on Sunday 28 June at the Little Theatre. They will perform two pieces: Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev, and the Toy Symphony by Haydn. There will be two performances to choose from : at 2pm and 5 pm.
Before each performance the children can join an Arty/ Crafty session with Armonia Music and Arts and create hats with the characters of Peter and the Wolf and musical instruments that will use to join the orchestra. The times for the Arty/ Crafty sessions are : 12:45-1:45 and 3:45-4:45.
This event is ideal for children 4-10 years old.
