Head of Primary's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of another wonderful year, it was a joy to celebrate Ratha Yatra together as a school community. Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the celebration so special. It was lovely to see so many of you sharing in this important festival with us.

We would also like to wish our Year 6 pupils the very best of luck as they prepare for the next exciting chapter of their journey. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and know they will continue to shine in their new schools.

We hope you all have a safe, restful and enjoyable summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new academic year.

 With best wishes

Mrs. Dolby - Molson

 Magical Moments

Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Krishna Avanti is all about.

We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!

Reception

Reception had a wonderful day celebrating Ratha Yatra. They used their creativity and critical thinking skills to design and build their own chariots using junk modelling materials. The children worked enthusiastically, exploring different ideas and solving problems as they created their unique chariots.

Year 1

Year 1 had a fantastic morning celebrating Ratha Yatra. They enjoyed learning about the festival's meaning, taking part in fun activities and joining in with the chanting and dancing. They ended their day drawing pictures of Jagannath, Subhadra and Baladev and then colouring them in.

Year 2

Year 2 enjoyed celebrating Rath Yatra and pulling the chariot whilst waving their flags.  A lovely summer festival to end the year.

Year 3

What a fantastic end to Year 3! This half term has been packed with exciting learning across the curriculum. In Science, we became investigators as we explored how shadows are formed and changed during our fascinating shadow experiments. In Maths, we developed our statistical skills by interpreting bar charts, analysing data and confidently answering reasoning questions. Our English lessons challenged us to become persuasive writers as we wrote formal letters of complaint about issues, we felt passionate about, using powerful language to make our voices heard. To finish the term, we have enjoyed sharpening our cricket skills, developing teamwork, batting, bowling and fielding techniques while having lots of fun outdoors.

It has been a fabulous term, and we could not be prouder of the effort, determination and resilience shown by every child. The children have worked incredibly hard, especially during these final few weeks of Year 3, always striving to do their very best. They have grown in confidence, independence and maturity, and it has been a privilege to watch them flourish. We wish them every success as they begin their exciting journey into Year 4! 🌟

Year 4

Year 4 have shown great enthusiasm for taking part in the Daily Mile. They consistently approach it with energy and a positive attitude, demonstrating determination to improve their fitness and wellbeing. In class, we have explored how regular physical activity can boost concentration and support mental health. Their teacher has been timing them, which has encouraged them to push themselves and track their progress over time. Great effort, Year 4. Keep it up!

Year 4 are on their way to Beaumanor Hall. Everyone is excited for the day ahead and we can't wait to enjoy all the activities that have been planned.

Year 5

Year 5 have had some wonderful visits to the ISKCON temple in the last week, where they enjoyed an uplifting kirtan, explored how sound affects the mind and body, and took part in creating temples using recycled materials. The children also shared a delicious lunch, making the day an engaging, memorable, and enriching learning experience for everyone.

Year 6

Our Year 6 pupils have been working incredibly hard rehearsing for their end-of-year production, Narasimha. This cross-arts project brings together drama, music, dance and storytelling, giving pupils the opportunity to develop their confidence, creativity and teamwork while exploring an important story.

Throughout rehearsals, the children have been challenging themselves by learning lines, mastering choreography, refining their performances and supporting one another to produce a show they can be proud of. We look forward to welcoming families to the performance on Tuesday 7th July at Avanti Fields. The children will also perform for the rest of the school on Wednesday 8th July at Krishna Avanti Primary School, celebrating all of their hard work with the wider school community.

Spiritual Explorers Club

Our Wednesday after-school Spiritual Explorers Club, led by Mrs Gadhia, continues to be a wonderful space where children can explore creativity, spirituality, friendship, and wellbeing in a fun and engaging way. Recently, the children enjoyed decorating beautiful wooden coasters using paint pens, creating colourful and unique designs that showcased their imagination and artistic talents. The children took great pride in their creations and thoroughly enjoyed expressing themselves through art.

At Spiritual Explorers, we take part in a variety of enriching activities, including creative arts and crafts, storytelling, mindfulness, discussions, games, and exploring values that help us grow into thoughtful and compassionate individuals. It is always a joy to see the children's confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm flourish each week. We are delighted to share some photographs of their wonderful coaster designs with you!

Summer Reading Challenge

We're encouraging all our pupils to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge at their local library this summer.

The challenge is free to join and is designed to keep children reading over the holidays while having fun! Children can read any books they enjoy, including fiction, non-fiction, comics, graphic novels, audiobooks and eBooks, collecting rewards and certificates as they progress.

Reading regularly over the summer helps children maintain their reading skills, develop their vocabulary, build confidence and discover new favourite books.

To sign up, simply visit your local library or find out more online at the Summer Reading Challenge website. We look forward to celebrating our pupils' reading achievements when they return to school in September!

ELSA updates

As we come to the end of another academic year, it is important to reflect on the progress our children have made, not only academically but also in their social and emotional development.

The work taking place through our ELSA sessions has been invaluable in supporting children to recognise, understand and regulate their emotions. It has been encouraging to see children develop greater confidence in expressing how they are feeling and to use the strategies they have learned to manage challenges more effectively.

Helping children to talk openly about their emotions is a vital part of their development. When children feel safe to express how they are feeling, they are better able to build positive relationships, regulate their behaviour and engage successfully in learning. We will continue to encourage these conversations in our classrooms / homes and celebrate the progress our children  have made in developing these important life skills.

A huge thank you to Mrs DM for making these ELSA sessions possible, to our teachers for their dedication and ongoing support, and to you, our parents /carers for working in partnership with us throughout the year. Your encouragement, commitment and collaboration have played a vital role in helping our children develop the confidence to talk about their feelings, build emotional resilience, and thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Should you or your family need any additional support during the summer break, I have attached a leaflet from the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), which provides information about the support and resources available. Please do not hesitate to access these services if you feel they would be beneficial.

Together, we are creating a school community where every child feels heard, valued, and supported. We wish you all a safe, happy, and restful summer break.

MHST webinar

As the end of the school year approaches, Year 6 students can become apprehensive about the move to secondary school.  Whilst we know that primary schools work closely with secondary schools to allay worries about transition, feedback suggests that parents and carers may not feel they know what to say to best support their child during the summer holidays.

For this reason, we are hosting a webinar, running twice over the break, to skill up families in how to manage worries about the transition to secondary school.  These are free online events which any interested party can register for, your school does not have to be signed up to Mental Health Support Team service to access this.   They will be hosted by Education Mental Health Practitioners from the Mental Health Support Teams in Schools and provide information and practical strategies to support parents and carers.

The webinar is set up so that parents will be able to see the presenters but not each other.  Microphones, cameras and chat functions have been disabled to protect privacy.

We hope this is a useful offer that you will share with your Year 6 parents and carers.

Rights Respecting at Home: Article of the Week

At Krishna Avanti Primary School, we are committed to promoting and upholding the rights of every child. It is important that children understand their rights because it helps them to feel valued, safe, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Rights Respecting Article of the week:

Rights Respecting Challenge – Celebrating Our Year Together

As we come to the end of another wonderful school year, take some time as a family to celebrate the rights we have learned about and how we can continue to make a positive difference.

Family Challenge: "Our Promise for the Future"

Together, discuss these questions:

Which Right have you learned the most about this year?

How have you shown kindness, fairness or respect to others?

What is one promise you can make over the summer to help protect someone's rights or care for our world?

Write your family promise on a colourful leaf, heart or handprint and display it somewhere at home as a reminder that everyone can make a difference, no matter how small.
